About the author

Hi. Hello. It's me.

Sara Jane Isom

I'm Sara Jane. I wrote Leading with Divine Purpose because I spent years running a household, a stage, and a family and still couldn't have told you, with a straight face, that any of it counted as leadership.

I grew up on a stage, married into the Army, and have lived in Alabama, South Korea, Texas, and Italy along the way. I'm a mother of three. I buried a son, Isaac, lost to trisomy 18, in a country that wasn't mine. The book is not a highlight reel, and neither is this page.

Here's what I believe, underneath all of it. You are a leader because you are divine. Not because you have a title. Not because you finally feel confident on a given Tuesday. Because you are a daughter of God, and that was true before any role you've ever held and it'll still be true after every one of them ends. I didn't arrive at that as a theory. I arrived at it on a floor, holding a screaming infant, absolutely convinced God had made a mistake putting me in charge of her.

When I started writing this, I went looking for leadership books for Christian women and came up mostly empty. That surprised me. The God I know has spent all of human history celebrating, amplifying, and building up strong women, so where were the books? I felt prompted, clearly enough that I couldn't talk myself out of it, to write the one I couldn't find.

Leading with Divine Purpose is the book I needed someone to hand me a decade ago. I wrote it instead, and it's as much for me as it is for you.

The women who led me

None of them called it leadership

A fourteen-year-old babysitter who showed up without being asked. A mentor from a different denomination who became one of my anchors in Christ anyway. A friend who gave me permission to mother my own way. None of them had a title. All of them were leading with divine purpose, whether they had the word for it or not.

That's the whole premise of this book: women have been leading each other, and their homes, and their communities, this entire time. Somebody just needed to say it out loud.

I'll send exactly one email when it launches, and only a few honest notes before that.
